Reservations - How to Bomb India’s IT Leadership, India Itself

The giant leaps that India made in the field of Information Technology (IT) has come to be envied by all other nations. It is a matter of pride for every Indian that the so called poor nation is making records in this crucial sector. India now has one of the best man-power stock in the field and the Indian presence is universally felt. Many of the so-called developed nations in the west also do not have the edge that India has in IT. How they are required to learn from India, take help from India. It is also a pointer to where modern India is heading for. New technologies decide the future history is well known. How the gun powder made the small island called Britain to subdue India long back.

Now how to stop India on its march is what the vulpine groups are brooding over. In this it is known in history that the western colonization of India did two important things, one, monopolized trade in natural resources like spices, two, destroyed the great traditions of India in manufacture. They started deciding the prices of Indian products is what trade monopoly meant. What continues to this day, hidden in the hyped rhetoric of globalisation. The notorious cases of the British killing the native skills in, say cloth making, are instances of the urge to weaken India, what was a cannibalistic trait. They promoted Birmingham cotton instead and soon India was dependent on the British to cloth herself. Every native technology was stolen and then throttled as history of Indian science tells. How India, then richest in the world, became the poorest soon.

If the British in India, with their vulpine instincts, could do that as a straight strategy they also made the Indians fight among themselves. They plotted to put one king against the other, one caste against the other and became the benevolent protectors. What was later called the ‘divide and rule’ policy. The missionary spread stories of upper caste oppression was a clever tool. Later the reservation policy gave it concrete shape. The leading communities were branded enemies of the people, neutralized. Putting one people against the other. Once again they are doing the same, the new reservation policy is a calculated attempt to make the Hindus fight among themselves. Today’s India has an Italian woman with redoubtable past at the helm is not a coincidence. After half a century when the confidential papers are declassified things may get known. How Sonia Maino became a Gandhi, came to lead India at the turn of the millennium.

The biggest threat that the marauding global capital sees in India is the emergence of a truly native idiom in India. What can trigger a global resistance movement. The Hindu nationalists urge that reflected in the raise of Bharateeya Janatha Party, though they had no visionary leaders, had the potential to transform in to a mammoth force. What a post-colonial was waiting for. The process needed correction and it would have come about, but before that it was tackled. The BJP itself was penetrated and their policies exposed. That, due to inner contradictions and through myopic and selfish politicians who were bought over. Why the whirl wind tours of Sonia Gandhi in the last elections, with the west centered Christian church in toe, and unleashed under the banner of the Congress party, became crucial. The BJP was thrown off and the budding urge of a native idiom almost annihilated. India in circa 2006 is at the crossroads.

Now when the same government takes a crucial decision, to give increased reservations in academic institutions of excellence, there are two important objectives. One, these centers of excellence like IITs and IIMs shall be diluted. It was the IIT culture, which focused on merit alone, that gave India its pioneering edge in IT is known. IITs and IIMs and professional centers of excellence escaped the epidemic of reservations and petty politics due to some great leaders. This small island of health in the decadent Indian polity is being targeted. These shall go to dogs in another five years. The other objective is more political, it gives multiple outputs. One by pleasing the larger so called backward communities in large numbers they can buy a vote bank, and two the Hindu consolidation process shall be destroyed for ever. If it was a love for the poor it could have been he economically poor who got the benefit of this generosity. No way.

Already caste wars are on and the same white brains are on work, what if the decisions are seemingly taken by people like Arjun Singh whose ancestors were Rajputs. Or that the Prime Minister who gives the shield for the coterie running India now is a great Sikh. It is a period in Indian history where the Prime Minister’s office is reduced to a dispatch section. The Sikhs whose sight even raises the images of valour and patriotism in India have a wrong role model in this graceful but weak Sikh. But then deeper processes are not visible to the career politicians, they are not intelligent enough to do that. They are simple people who love some luxuries like palatial mansions, some money and power. Are willing accomplices in the game, whatever happens to India is not their concern. Wars of the modern era are fought in the minds, reservation is more potent than nuclear bombs, but these explode slowly, silently, and shall kill India. It is time for every true Indian to stand up and say no, or perish.

Comments:
You are dead on.

This is quite an interesting take on the quota issue. Personally, I don't think there is any global agenda to destabilize the IT sector by introducing "quotas" to OBCs. This is just historically stupid politicians playing petty vote bank politics..... but this time the issue on hand is much grave.

quata is a historic necessity which could give access to the downtrodden. the upper caste might find it difficult to digest because they have been using the wealth of the nation for more than 3000 years completely and absolutely. so let the poor people too get some reservation.
all the best

I think nair community should also pitch for an OBC status

What the blogger above tells is blatantly untrue, while agreeing that the less fortunate need to be helped by those better off the whole argument of reservations only makes it worse. It creates enmity in the minds of people and it will not help in the long term as every one live in a composite society. And the '3000 year' story (above)is plain rubbish, spread by the missionaries and those who get supported by them.

Finally the tribals and dalits are following a very sustainable way of life, what the Hindu ascetics also follow, it was the western consumerist phase that mde it 'poverty' and injustice. Mind you there are many who opt to live simple lives, Gandhiji was one.

The caste Brahmin phase had problems is true but there are people being victimised, these are not very different from the OBCs. The Nairs are among these. And few governmnet jobs alone cannot help make the down trodden better. If it adds to a major division in Indian society, as it has done, it cannot b said to be healthy. Yes, we need programmes to make life better for everyone. What that calls for is a united India.

Thank you

History of India is much more complex than the birmingham cotton and british rule alone. Even at the turn of last century, there were people in this country who were distanced based on colour, deprived of knowledge and condemned for an ever lasting doom by the manifestations of the same religious missionaries erected by the so called leading communities.

Hey, think of an era where you're not allowed to learn. If you're brilliant you're exiled out of state. Think of an era when your friend is urged to wash himself on the very sight of you. My friend, colonisation began simply due to this stupid shortsightedness of our so called religiously and spiritually enriched leading communities. If they knew how to vision our India and bring its people together this oppression and British colonisation would have ended much before a Gandhi had to open our eyes.

I agree that the present system of deciding the percentage of reservation needs a look at. However, I do not agree that reservation is anti-indian or separatism. It is an essential tool to overhaul a rotten and tormented system which unfortunately ran in this highly spiritual sub continent. Still, we're paying the price for it.

My friend, india is not IT and IIT alone. There is an india that still awaits our call. An India of 90% illiterates when it started out with independance. Now its 35% is still illeterate and that is a million million people. We need a broader vision dude and don't confine our thoughts to multiplexes, infosys and IT alone. It is true our formost educational institutions like IIT needs to sustain its status but we also need to try and change the minds of socially illiterate people ( which means inability to think above their horizon). Like an engineer who urges his son to pursue higher studies, a blacksmith urges his son to do more and more tempering. Here we need our blacksmith to help think and fulfil his son's potential only if his ideas broaden and only then our countries oppressed will again regain the color and brawn to think beyond their everyday lives. We need their representatives however weak they are to sit with us, think with us help them improve their thoughts and help them survive centuries of suppression. This needs to be done without affecting our quality is a bigger challenge in its own. But, totally banishing reservation pricinples sipping a coke and coding in your cubicle is equivalent to the same shortsight which helped our colonisation.

dear vivek,

for a moment shift ur focus to the india as a whole, from looking at the dalits etc. wat do u see. it is indded a bad state, poverty, all round anarchy, correuption, where might is right rules.

do we need this to continue. after the british left india is not doing well but sinking, withsome islands of hope.

we need systemic changes is what the author means. rightly so. dumping dead myths, making amends for past mistakes. let us live in the present, do what we can.

the low castes are doing badly is true, that there was caste oppression, still there is, is also true. we need to get them a decent quality of life. but the fault cannot be put on the high castes in to to. that was a missionary game.

every society has haves and have nots, india as well. but if that is made in to a mutual hatred the country wil never prosper, it is a hard choice yes, but the only sane choice. else the people will go on fighting and the 'low castes' and high castes will remain in mutual hatred. choice is yours.

My engineering batch is among the pioneer of IT in India. That time there were only two companies worth naming in IT - TCS and Wipro (Infosys is a late commer). In those days (1978-83) the most common names in IT were Sivaramakrishnan, Shekhar Subrahmanyam, and Prakash Sundaram etc. It did not take much time for me to realize that these names are nothing other than Tamil iyers or iyengars who moved to IT after the onslaught of 69% reservation. In fact it was the brilliance of Tamil Brahmin professors that earned India respect in USA and it was the sheer brilliance of Tamil Brahmins that earned India IT respect in the world.

And I am sure, these beautiful minds will invent something new where the so-called "secular" forces can enforce reservation.
